Curiosity

2011. 17″ x 11″. Digital collage on paper.

If the viewer is curious enough to scan the QR code, they will be led to the official NASA website counting down to the launch of the new Mars rover, Curiosity. The poster is designed to be a little confusing – the cartoon robot appears out of place on the photograph background – alluding that the real rover will be out of place when on a different planet. The background also contains some ancient Greek ruins, adding to the ambiguity of what may be discovered during the mission. The Mars rover, and other mechanical wanderers, have become the protagonists to a book I’m currently working on, focusing on The Red Planet. I’m fascinated with this moment in time, seeing next week’s launch as a merger between science fiction and reality.
