2012. Digital collage
The ancient Greeks and Romans would personify the concepts of sensuality, beauty, love, and desire with their goddess Aphrodite/Venus. The classical depictions of Venus, the ideal woman, has become an icon within our western culture – timeless masterpieces lasting for centuries. The original bronze sculptures are gone, but copies of copies remain. Today, when the word Venus is mentioned, it is often understood as a planet, a woman, a flower, etc – all associations deriving from its mythological origin.
This set of collages illustrates a new myth of Venus – her birth from the ocean, her awakening of beauty, and her gradual ascent to becoming the eternal embodiment of beauty within the universe.
